My Black + Minimalist Life

Since 2017, I have tried to be intentional about practicing minimalism. Over the last four years, I have learned that minimalism is:

1) a mindset and lifestyle

2) encourages freedom and independence from capitalistic structures and systems

3) empowers peace of mind and an inherent self-care practice.

Another important thing that I’ve learned is that minimalism does not mean the absence of purchases, but the strategic and intentional purchase of quality goods and services that are time appropriate and long lasting investments. As such, I have found myself procuring most of my goods and services from Black owned businesses. As a Black woman, it feels good to support Black-owned businesses. Some of my recent and favorite purchases include Pyer Moss gym shoes and a Telfar leather shopping bag.

I’d love to hear some of your favorite Black-owned businesses!

Naturally, Alescia
